Statement
I paint landscapes because they are one of the few things we have left that move in real time. Landscapes ground us to something bigger than ourselves. They give us breathing room, pause our hectic days, and calmly remind us to be alive; to be present. The simple act of seeing a picture of a landscape can evoke a feeling, a memory of the air, the ground, or a horizon we set out to follow. Nature heals us, so we seek out landscapes. I paint landscapes because they slow me down. Every walk through a landscape is a visceral encounter that touches all of our senses, floods our perception, and immerses us in a mood that makes the landscape memorable. We come alive in landscapes, but we can also experience this same restoration through a good painting. My paintings are small, but they are windows into vastness; contemplative portals into familiar landscapes of the natural world.
